To A Girl Whose Hands Have Lied

I know little about her
but that she is beautiful and kind
and has eyes that offer surrender
or shelter
to others’ fears and problems
within their placating,
delivering depths

I know little about her
but the way her smile rights me
and that I search for it
even after she has left the room

I know little about her
but that I hope my speculation is untrue
that she who empowers others
and inspires self confidence in
the lost or weary
has a tenuous hold on her own

I know little about her
but the open enigma she is
and the addictiveness of
her wonder
and that her hands have lied
